Suspects Identified in Springfield Wal-Mart Shooting
Springfield Police have identified the two suspects in Saturday’s shooting at Wal-Mart in Springfield as Anthony James Hillenius, 20, and Cory Lee Michael Monpas, also 20. Hillenius is also known as Anthony James Enlow, according to a press release issued by Sgt. Michael McCarthy of the Springfield Police Department. Both suspects are residents of Cottage Grove.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart, located at 2659 Olympic St. at about 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24. The victim of the shooting, John Anthony Magliana III, 27, of Bend, is in a local hospital in serious condition and suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Police say his condition has improved.
The two suspects fled the scene in a blue Ford Thunderbird, and were stopped on N St. in West Springfield. One of the suspects was arrested after a short pursuit, with the other suspect arrested a few hours later where he was hiding at a nearby address. Springfield K-9 units were instrumental in the capture of both suspects.
Hillenius is believed to have fired the gunshots, and is charged with first-degree assault and two counts of first-degree robbery. Monpas is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.
Both men are currently lodged at Lane County Jail.
