Springfield Man Shot after Marijuana Theft Attempt Thwarted
Richard Allen Kelly, 38, was transported to an area hospital early Tuesday morning after suffering a gunshot wound after an attempted theft of marijuana plants from an address in West Springfield.
Just after 6 a.m., Springfield Police responded to a report of a gunshot wound, during which Kelly was shot by the homeowner, Josiah Timothy Shirley, 30, of Springfield. Officers found Kelly lying in a nearby yard with a single gunshot wound. Shirley also was at the scene and has been identified by police as the person who fired the shot.
Kelly is in stable condition at an area hospital, and the weapon has been seized from Shirley. The investigation is continuing, and no charges have been filed.
